Here are eight ideas for using blogging in social and interactive ways to enhance your author platform and engage your readers:

1. Encourage your readers to share your content with others.

Make it easy for readers to share your content by adding "share" buttons from sites such as Share This or Add This. Then ask readers to share by including text at the end of your best posts such as: "Do you know someone who might benefit from these tips? Just click the Share This button below to send a link by email or recommend this post on your favorite social site."

2. Actively solicit comments.

Get readers engaged by including a sentence at the end of some posts inviting comments. Thank each commenter and make a further comment based on what they said.

3. Make comments on other blogs.

Making insightful comments on related blogs is a great book promotion tactic. Comments boost your visibility and create links and traffic to your site. Subscribe to the top blogs related to your book's topic or audience and watch for posts that you can comment on. Also, set up Google Alerts for your main keywords to stay on top of other relevant blog posts. Comments should be helpful and relevant -- be subtle about promoting your book.

4. Write guest posts for other blogs.

Another effective book promotion strategy is to contact other bloggers that cater to your audience and offer to write a guest article. Include a brief bio and a low-resolution photo. Search for relevant blogs on Google Blog Search.

5. Create a feed for your blog.
RSS feeds allow your blog posts to be automatically delivered to your visitors and to other websites. This benefits your book promotion by creating regular readers for your blog, rather than relying on drop-in traffic. To create a feed, visit FeedBurner.

6. Do a virtual book tour.

As part of your book promotion strategy, make guest appearances on blogs, ezines, or podcasts to promote your book within a specific time frame - usually one to two weeks. Provide unique content to each host on your tour. Content can include interviews, how-to articles, book excerpts, videos, book reviews, or an article about how you developed the plot or characters for a novel.

7. Join a blog carnival.

Blog carnivals are a collection of links pointing to blog posts on a particular topic, or topics of interest to a particular group of people. Learn more at Blog Carnival.

8. Hold a contest or drawing on your blog.

Use the blog comment feature to hold contests. For example, post a question and award a prize to the first person who leaves a comment with the correct answer. Or, write a blog post stating that everyone who leaves a comment on the post by a specific date (allow five to seven days) will be entered in a drawing to win a free copy of your book. Promote the contest on your social networks.

Try these eight strategies to give your book promotion a boost.

Dana Lynn Smith is a book marketing coach and author of The Savvy Book Marketer's Guide to Successful Social Marketing at http://www.savvybookmarketer.com/ For free book marketing tips visit the Book Marketing Maven blog. http://www.bookmarketingmaven.com/

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Dana_Lynn_Smith
http://EzineArticles.com/?Book-Promotion---8-Ways-to-Use-Blogging-to-Promote-Your-Book&id=3052477

Promote My Book: 6 Ways to Market Your Book on Facebook

I enjoyed this informative article. It offers 6 ways to get visibility and promote your book using Facebook.
Promote Your Book on Facebook - Six Strategies For Success
By Dana Lynn Smith

Social networking sites like Facebook are a terrific way to promote your book, but many authors don't optimize their Facebook profile or venture beyond their profile. Here are six ways to effectively promote your book on Facebook:

1. Take full advantage of the promotional opportunities on your Facebook Profile. Just below your photo is a small box where you can enter a concise description of what you do, including the title of your book. The About Me box (under Personal Information) is a good place to describe your book and your business. In the Contact Information section you can enter multiple website addresses. Post your book cover in your photo album or another application and display it in the left column of your profile.

Remember, your Facebook profile must be registered in your real name. If you create a profile for your book or business, you risk having your account cancelled.

2. Facebook Fan Pages are similar to personal profiles, but they are created for business use. You can create a page to promote your book or your business, or even create a page for one of the characters in your novel. People join a page by becoming a fan.

You may want to offer an incentive to join (or at least visit) your fan page, such as a free download, a coupon for one of your products, or a contest. Another way to attract fans is to set your page up as an information hub, offering links and resources.

3. Facebook Groups are a great place to meet people who share your interests and find new friends. Search for groups by entering keywords in the Search box at the top of the page and then clicking on the Groups tab. You can gain visibility on a group page by introducing yourself on the wall, participating in discussions, and posting your book cover, photos or videos.

Forming your own group is another good way to subtly promote your book. Be sure to encourage discussions and offer valuable information such as free downloads and links to resources. You can send direct messages the entire group.

4. Joining relevant Facebook Events is a good way to get visibility by writing on the event wall and posting photos. In addition, you can subtly promote your book and yourself by promoting your own live or virtual events through a Facebook event.

5. Facebook displays pay-per-click ads on most pages on the site, and ads can be targeted by age, gender, location, education level, relationship status, or keywords in people's profiles.

6. The Facebook Marketplace is a free classified advertising area where you can post a listing to sell your book. It's worth an experiment if you have a book on a topic that someone might search for on a classified advertising site.

Dana Lynn Smith is a book marketing coach and author of The Savvy Book Marketer Guides. In this article, the author gives 3 ways you may not usually think of to promote your book.

Promote a Book - 3 Out of the Box Tools to Promote your Book
Author: Bob Burnham

Without book promotion, no one will know that you’ve written a book that can change their lives. Without proper book promotion you won’t sell your book. However, sometimes proper book promotion can be well… dull. Here are 3 out of the box tools to promote your book.

# 1 Advanced Email Marketing

Email is by far the fastest way to get the message out that you have written and published a book. Try this email marketing promotion on for size. Send every single person that you know an email announcing your book. Offer them a free report, free book, or some other special bonus for everyone that signs up for your newsletter or purchases your book. Add an extra bonus for every person that is referred by another.

Not comfy with such blatant self promotion? Send an email to every person that you know announcing that your book is being listed on Amazon and simply ask for their help to make it number one by purchasing on a certain day. Offer to return the favor when they publish their book!

# 2 Blog, yes really

Blogging isn’t really the out of the box promotional tool that it used to be but it is still an underused tool. Contribute to blogs, chat rooms, and forums that are appropriate venues for your book’s topic.

In addition to blogging and participating on other peoples’ web sites. Add a blog or forum to your own website. There you can not only promote your products, you can promote your affiliate products, and you can get great ideas about what content is needed by your target market. Want more tools to promote and make money with your book? Visit my blog and learn “How To Write, Publish and Make Money With Your Book.”

# 3 Carry your book with you

This seems like a really simple and obvious tip but let me tell you a little story. I was out enjoying nature the other day and came across a person that was enjoying the same area along the river. As it often does when conversing with a stranger, the topic of what I did for a living came up. Too bad I didn’t have a copy of my book with me. Funny thing was, he was an author too and he didn’t have a copy of his book with him either. Think of what could have happened, had either one of us remembered this basic promotional tip. “Promote yourself”

This is especially important if you are using your book as a business card to promote your service!

Take your imagination to its limit. Promote your book with a crazy eye catching ad in your local paper. Pull a stunt or create a public spectacle to promote your book. Enjoy the process and enjoy the profits. There are of course many tried and true proper methods of promoting a self published book and they certainly have their place among your marketing plans. Among the winners are press releases, ezines and article marketing, websites and much more.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/careers-articles/promote-a-book-3-out-of-the-box-tools-to-promote-your-book-206996.html

About the Author:

For Your FREE MP3 (Value $97.00)

‘How To Make A 6 Figure Income Writing & Publishing Your Own Book’

Go To: Make Money

Bob Burnham

Entrepreneur, Consultant and Author of ‘101 Reasons Why You Must Write A Book’

For Information on How to Write and Publish your own book Go to: Expert Author

Read More On: Promote A Book

Tips to Promote Your Book

There are literally hundreds of way to market your book. Here are some more suggestions.

How to Promote Your Book
By Patrick Schwerdtfeger

One of the biggest misconceptions about getting a book published is that the publishing company will take care of the marketing. Generally speaking, that's not true. There are basically three different ways to get your book published. You can self-publish your own book. You can use a small independent publisher or if you're an established author, you can use one of the big publishing houses like Penguin or Random House. Regardless which of these options you use, you will still be left with the responsibility for the marketing.

There are a lot of different things you can do to promote your book and Tactical Execution has made a business out of helping you see real results out there. But this article will give you a few pointers to help you get started. For more detailed information, visit the website. There's a ton of free information available there and I hope you take advantage of those resources.

One of the best ways to promote your book is to offer workshops and seminars around the country. It's not that difficult to do that. You can quickly contact the major Adult Education providers and submit a proposal for a workshop dealing with the same topic as your book. Include the release of your new book in your proposal. The people reviewing workshop proposals love having things like that to include in their marketing.

These Adult Education programs are a hidden treasure to say the least. These companies send out small catalogs of courses to huge mailing lists, trying to attract students to their courses. Submitting just one proposal can get you on the schedule and they do all the marketing for you, leaving you with great exposure for very little cost.

Your book should definitely be featured on your website along with a way for people to buy a copy. Assuming that's in place, article marketing presents another great opportunity to generate website traffic resulting in book sales. In fact, you've already done all the writing too. Just take your book and break it up into a hundred small segments; a hundred small articles. Then publish them individually on the web, each with a backlink to your website.

Article marketing is the primary website traffic strategy I use to promote the Tactical Execution website and you can see all my published articles right on the site. In addition, the site provides specific implementation guidance to get your article marketing campaign up and running. Any seasoned internet marketer can tell you that article marketing is one of the most powerful tools available to attract not just human visitors but search engines as well.

The last tip I'll share in this article is a paid public relations service called PR Leads. This is a tremendous opportunity to get a ton of great exposure and credibility for yourself and your business. For just $100 per month, you can be on a database journalists use to get quotes for stories they're working on. You simply identify the areas where you're an expert and wait for the emails to come in. If you're quick to respond, you can find your own quotes in major news media within a single week. Give it a try.

Marketing your own book is no easy task. But if you know something about marketing and have some good implementation guidance, you can stage a successful campaign from your own home. Visit the Tactical Execution website to get specific step-by-step instructions so you can do it too.

Become a recognized expert. Optimize your website. Explode your business. And after months of marketing my book, I've come up with a list of what I've found to be the most effective and important tips for getting the word out on a limited budget about your book.

Tip #1 - Get a website:
Have a website ready to go the moment your book is out. And then connect your website directly to your book's page on Amazon (and other sites too).

Tip #2 - Write discussion guidelines:
Have discussion guidelines available to download as a PDF off your website. And if you've written an adult book, consider including a section of questions for teens.

Tip #3 - Provide free chapters:
Have the first few chapters available as free PDF downloads off your website. This is a great way to get readers "hooked" on reading the rest of the book.

Tip #4 - Do read some books on promoting your book:
Some of the books I found particularly helpful are:
Sell Your Book on Amazon by Brent Sampson (terrific ways to establish a presence on Amazon)
Red Hot Internet Publicity by Penny C. Sansevieri (you can sign up for free email info at amarketingexpert.com)
Plug Your Book by Steve Weber (subtitle: Online Book Marketing for Authors)
1001 Ways to Market Your Books (sixth edition) by John Kremer (huge book so for now I only read Chapter 12 -- "How to Sell Books Via Computer") (you can sign up for free email info from him at bookmarket.com)

Tip #5 - Collect all the publicity tips you can and jump on any opportunities:
Joan Stewart the Publicity Hound (sign up for free email info at publicityhound.com) has great pr tips. And sign up on helpareporter.com to get email updates for story sources that reporters need.

Tip #6 - Start a blog as soon as possible, preferably before your book is published:
Unfortunately I only learned this wisdom right before my book was published, but I did jump right in once I did learn.

Tip #7 - Optimize your Amazon presence:
Make sure you take full advantage of author tools on Amazon, including having your blog feed into your AmazonConnect feature on your book's page.

Tip #8 - Ask book bloggers to review your book:
And if they say yes, be sure to give them a free copy for themselves as well as a free copy for a contest in connection with your book. Book giveaways on book blogs are major attention-getters for people who read. (And if book bloggers really like your book, they're often willing to post the review from their blog on Amazon and other book sites.)

Tip #9 - Take a virtual book tour:
I used pumpupyourbookpromotion.com to take a month-long virtual book tour (your book is featured on blogs with either a review or an interview or both), and I found the experience extremely effective for developing relationships with book bloggers.

For the free report 7 TIPS FOR CREATING A CALL-TO-ACTION WEBSITE by Phyllis Zimbler Miller and for other free book marketing information, visit http://www.CalltoActionWebsites.com

Follow book author Phyllis Zimbler Miller at http://www.twitter.com/ZimblerMiller and connect with her on Facebook and LinkedIn as Phyllis Zimbler Miller.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Phyllis_Zimbler_Miller
http://EzineArticles.com/?9-Tips-For-How-to-Promote-Your-Book-on-a-Limited-Budget&id=1550920

How to Promote Your Book

By Patrick Schwerdtfeger

One of the biggest misconceptions about getting a book published is that the publishing company will take care of the marketing. Generally speaking, that’s not true. There are basically three different ways to get your book published. You can self-publish your own book. You can use a small independent publisher or if you’re an established author, you can use one of the big publishing houses like Penguin or Random House. Regardless which of these options you use, you will still be left with the responsibility for the marketing.

There are a lot of different things you can do to promote your book and Tactical Execution has made a business out of helping you see real results out there. But this article will give you a few pointers to help you get started. For more detailed information, visit the website. There’s a ton of free information available there and I hope you take advantage of those resources.

One of the best ways to promote your book is to offer workshops and seminars around the country. It’s not that difficult to do that.

Assuming that’s in place, article marketing presents another great opportunity to generate website traffic resulting in book sales. In fact, you’ve already done all the writing too. Just take your book and break it up into a hundred small segments; a hundred small articles. Be a guest on radio talk shows nation-wide. You can do it from your own home -- you don't have travel. You have half an hour of thousands of people's time, regaling them with your stories and information, making them want to get more by purchasing your book, and it doesn't cost you anything.

"So, how do I get invited as a guest on radio talk shows, and how do I behave once I'm on the air?" you ask. To get scheduled, you contact the show's producer. To find the producers' contact information and what they are looking for, you could do Internet searches and call the stations. You can save yourself a lot of effort and time by buying a database for under $150. The database comes with the book not only on how to use it, but all the other things you need to know about being on radio talk shows.

Here are a few things you need to know about how to behave when you're on the air:

One, you are there to make the show's host look good. If you don't make the host look good, you certainly won't be invited back, and you may even get hung up on.

Two, supply the hosts with 10 or so questions before hand. The questions can make the hosts look as knowledgeable as if they've even read your book. Prepare strong answers to those questions.

Three, speak in sound bites. Few things are as boring on the air as one person talking on and on and on. The only thing worse is just answering "yes" and "no" to every question -- it doesn't fill air time, and it's not entertaining. Give a short and entertaining answer for each question.

Four, give away your information freely. Don't give away everything about your book, of course, but if you're tightfisted about information, the audience isn't going to like you. What you want is for them to remember how entertaining and knowledgeable you are. They are not going to remember all the information you've given them, but they are going to remember where they can go to find it and even more information -- your book.

Five, don't push your book. Being entertaining and giving away information is the best sales pitch for it. At the end of the interview, the host will ask you where the listeners can get more information or where they can buy your book. Tell them then.

You can't afford to buy the kind of advertising you can get on radio talk shows for free.

------------------------

Take a free mini-course on how to be a radio talk show guest at
http://onlinemoneymakingopportunity.info/TalkShowGuest/index.html For other information for writers, speakers, and self-employed professionals is available at Tom Christopher's web site: http://www.CreateIncomeStreams.com/

Source: http://www.submityourarticle.com

Permalink: http://www.submityourarticle.com/a.php?a=59738

Top Secrets to FREE Publicity

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Sally_Shields]Sally Shields
In order to leverage your authorship into a ton of free publicity, here are a few tips and tricks that can help you succeed faster, smarter and won't break your bank. Remember, you are in it for the long haul, and your book should mainly be thought of as a tool to enhance and further your business, and to help give you more credibility as an expert in your chosen field. Okay, here we go:

1) Get a Business Card with Your Book Cover on It
You can get these made up very inexpensively, such as through Vistaprint. Use them as book marks. Give them out to friends, colleagues, potential contacts. Leave them at the bagel store, and post them on the bulletin board at your local library. Be sure to have your website/contact info on the back as well. You never know who's going to check it out!

2. Get a website with your book's URL
Hopefully most of you will have done this. But here's the difference between successful authors and those that just sell a few books: get a contact form and offer your visitors an ethical bribe such as, "Sign up for Sally's weekly newsletter, and instantly have access to download the first chapter of her book, for FREE!"Or offer them a top 10 list, or eReport. You get the idea. The main thing is to start capturing the email addresses of your adoring fans whom you can then keep in touch with and market to as you grow as an author.

3. Work on an "Elevator Pitch"
The media is busy, and they will know within 10-15 seconds weather they want to hear more or not. Having an elevator pitch that is short, succinct and to the point is an invaluable tool for pitching the media. Here are the three steps in a nutshell:
a) Your name, the name of your book, and if you can, make up a cute little name for yourself like so:
Hi, I'm Sally Shields, "The In-Law Expert" and I've written a book called, "The Daughter-in-Law Rules!"
b) then, tell them what your vision is, like so:
My vision is to create more harmony among mothers and daughters in law by teaching brides and wives the art of making friends with their husband's mother.
c) Finally, tell them what problem you can solve for them, or what information you can reveal, like this:
I will reveal the top 3 things that every wife can do to create a lifetime of peace with their husband, and the OTHER woman in his life-his MOM!

4. Make sure to be signed up for HARO and look for opportunities to provide your expertise
There is nothing more powerful out there today for us authors and experts than joining HARO. National media outlets such as Fox News and Woman's Day are all searching for that perfect expert to quote in their next segment or bi-line. Go there and get a free account today!

5. Prepare short 300-500 word articles, and submit them to EzineArticles. This is a fantastic way to get your name out there on the web. An account is free. Using keywords is invaluable, but most important is the title of the article itself. Media outlets all over the web will be sending out spiders looking for content and you never know where your article might be re-posted. Make sure to sign all your articles with your name, website and contact info.

6. Go to Google and sign up for a Google Alert
Make sure to put in all the keywords that pertain to your book and expertise. You will get daily alerts on stories that are being written and talked about. Then, you can be prepared to pitch the media and let them know you are the go-to person and perhaps they will use you as a source. Begin to develop a media contact database.

7. Get a BLOG for FREE!
It doesn't have to be pretty, but o to blogger.com and set up an account, for free. Folks, if I can do it you can too! But if it seems complicated, grab your 10 year old kid and they can help you :-)The great thing about blogs is that the keywords that you use at the bottom of each post act like an internet magnet. Anyone that googles a certain word or idea or concept that you indicate in your keyword search bar, has a very good chance of having your blog come up in the search engine. Blog alot. Blog often.

8. Set up a Facebook FanPage and make sure to have a Twitter Account
Many of you are already doing this. If you haven't, it's a good time to start. Twitter is great because you can share information that you think is cool. It's not about tooting your own horn, but rather about sharing information and being a valuable source. The more you give and share, the more followers and the more traffic you'll attract to your website. Make sure you have a good catchy profile and pic and if you can get an application for twitter on your cell phone, you'll have a lot of fun.

9. Prepare letters/emails and shoot to get at least 5-10 testimonials
... from either celebrities, or other authors that you respect and admire. If you do want to go for a celebrity endorsement, you can get a 7 day trial for $1 at whorepresents.com where you will find contact info for almost any celebrity you can think of. The secrets is to prepare 3-5 quotes in advance, and send them either the book or a chapter. Make it very easy for them to put their name to something you've already written. Consequently, it is imperative that you search for the best means of marketing your book.

The following are just a few book marketing tips to get you started on your way to success:

Follow Your Book Marketing Plan

Ideally, you should have an overall book marketing plan in place before you write your book. Determine in advance who will be most interested in reading your book. This is your targeted market. Do some research on where your target market hangs out, including both physical settings as well as online settings such as blogs and forums.

Another important aspect of marketing your book is determining whether you plan to make your book available in other types of formats such as a CD, podcast, e-book and so on. Also, spend some time to determine your target price and packaging.

Build a Website or Blog

I always recommend leveraging the amazing distribution power that comes from marketing your book online. Here are a few quick things to keep in mind as you do so:

Make sure that you include the name of your book in your website or blog title so that it is easy to find when others are searching for it online. Your blog should be designed to help convert incoming traffic to buyers of your book.

One great way to do this is to put together a newsletter that visitors to your site may subscribe to. Once they sign up, you can continue to follow up with them via email. They'll get to know you better that way, and will be all the more likely to buy your book.

Publicity and Promotion

Publicity and promotion are vital to the sales of your newly published book. In fact, frankly this factor is more important to the success of your book than what you wrote in it. There are many fantastic books in the world today that have never sold any copies because they were not effectively marketed.

One great means of promoting your book online is to write articles that can be placed in article directories to increase your exposure and draw more online traffic to your main blog or website. You may even consider placing advertisements both online and offline.

Another thing to remember is to design and print some business cards with all the essential information included, such as your contact information and the URL for your website or blog. You should also consider obtaining reviews or testimonials of other recognized experts in your field to help promote your book.

Press Releases

Press releases are definitely effective for getting the attention of print and other forms of media. When writing press releases, be sure to include keywords that are relevant to the topic of your book, and that are likely to be searched for online by your potential readers. Your press releases should also link back to your blog or web site to provide both a way for people to get more information, as well as all-important incoming site links for search optimization purposes.

You should send out at least ten press releases over time to cover as much ground as possible for your book exposure. Another great tip is to send your book press release to your local newspapers to gain local exposure for you and your book. Many newspapers are thrilled to make such an announcement for their local readers. Another option is to use a press release syndication service like PRWeb to get your press release to a much wider distribution network.

These are just a few of the many strategies you can use for marketing your book. Do your homework and you'll find literally hundreds of ways to get your book out in front of your potential readers. Start implementing these and you'll be well on your way to success!

John Harricharan is an International Best-Selling Author with nearly 40 years of experience in book publishing.

John's latest creation, Authors University, teaches current and aspiring authors the latest methods for writing, publishing, and [http://authorsuniversity.com/content/articles/keys-to-marketing-your-book]marketing your book to best-seller status.
